EDWARD C. HUTCHESON, JR.
Managing Director
Chap Hutcheson is a Managing Director of Platte River Equity. Over the past two decades, he has served in senior management positions with publicly owned corporations in the telecommunications, financial services and oilfield services industries.
In 1995, Mr. Hutcheson co-founded Crown Castle International Corporation, the owner and operator of over 22,000 wireless communication towers throughout the U.S. and Australia. He served as the Company’s founding Chairman and CEO and continues to serve as a director. Through a series of major acquisitions, CCI grew from a regional, privately-owned business with 125 towers to a NYSE-listed company with an equity market capitalization in excess of $10 billion.
From 1997 through 2000, Mr. Hutcheson served in several management roles including Chief Operating Officer with Pinnacle Global Group, a publicly-owned financial services firm. He was actively involved in mergers and acquisitions at PGG including the merger to create the NASDAQ-listed company, Sanders Morris Harris Group.
From 1987 to 1993, Mr. Hutcheson served in management roles including President, Chief Operating Officer and a director of Baroid Corporation, a NYSE-listed company. Baroid provided oilfield services to oil and gas operators in 50 countries. Prior to his appointment as COO of the holding company, Mr. Hutcheson served as president of Baroid Drilling Fluids, the company’s largest operating division. In 1994 Baroid Corporation was acquired by Dresser Industries which was subsequently acquired by Halliburton.
From 1973 to 1987, Mr. Hutcheson was director of marketing and later Senior Vice President of Bernard Johnson Incorporated, a consulting architectural-engineering firm which grew into one of the nation’s largest design companies.
Mr. Hutcheson received a B.S. from Northwestern University in 1968 and served three years as an officer in the US Army. He previously served as a director of Titanium Metals Corporation and Special Metals Corporation.
